I used to believe
Sad poetry was better
More artful, more real
Maybe I’m pretentious
But as I grow older
I discovered sadness
Is all I have truly felt
And so turning off
My humanity switch
Was the right decision
For I convinced myself
If I could only be sad
I could never truly feel
What happiness had
To offer me in words
